As per usual, I’m unfashionably late to a food trend, but better late than never, I always say.

If you’re on social media, it is almost a guarantee you’ve heard of yogurt bark. The trend exploded on both TikTok and Instagram in the last couple of years, with all sorts of delicious variations on how to make this delicious treat.

The popularity of the recipe is with good reason. It’s easy to prepare, it’s tasty, it’s wholesome, and it makes you feel like you’re doing something good for yourself.

How could we go wrong?

What is Yogurt Bark?

The basic premise behind yogurt bark is similar to classic chocolate bark.

We simply spread store-bought yogurt into a thin layer over a baking dish, sprinkle it with goodies, and freeze it until it has solidified.

Once finished, we slice the batch into individual pieces and enjoy!

You could compare it to frozen yogurt, but in hand-held form for an easy quick snack or dessert.

There are plenty of ways you can customize this easy dessert recipe. For instance, you can make my Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt for a more decadent treat, add a chocolate drizzle or chocolate shell, or mix up the berry and granola selection.

An added bonus to healthy yogurt bark is you’re getting a few grams of protein per serving from the yogurt. The ideal sweet snack for warmer weather.

No matter how you slice it, you’re in for a fun adventure that is easy enough for small children to participate in.

Let’s discuss the simple ingredients for berry frozen yogurt bark.

Berry Frozen Yogurt Bark Ingredients:

Vanilla Yogurt: Pick your favorite brand of vanilla yogurt for this easy yogurt bark recipe. I recommend using whole milk yogurt or full-fat yogurts for richness over nonfat yogurt.

Lower milkfat such as nonfat or 2% results in a somewhat icy consistency. If you’re okay with this, feel free to proceed.

Fresh Berries: I like using blueberries and raspberries, but any combination of berries works here. Just be sure to use fresh berries for the best results.

Granola: Select your favorite granola to sprinkle on top of this easy yogurt bark recipe! I like using grain-free granola and lower sugar granolas.

There are many ways you can change up this simple frozen yogurt bark recipe to make it your own. Here are some ideas.

Recipe Customizations:

  • Chocolate lovers, make a chocolate drizzle by microwaving ½ cup of chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil for 20 second intervals until melted. Drizzle melted chocolate over the yogurt prior to freezing it.
  • Rather than making a melted chocolate drizzle, you can sprinkle chocolate chips or peanut butter chips over the yogurt layer at the same time as the berries.
  • Swap the granola out for raw or roasted nuts or seeds. Pumpkin seeds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pistachios, almonds, walnuts, and pecans are all great options.
  • Mix and match your berries. You can also add sliced fresh strawberries or blackberries if you’d like.
  • If you prefer plain yogurt, feel free to swap it out for the vanilla yogurt. Just note that the bark won’t taste sweet without added sweetener.
  • To sweeten plain yogurt yourself if you avoid regular sugar, mix plain Greek yogurt in a large bowl with your desired amount of pure maple syrup or honey (2 to 3 tablespoons recommended) and a splash of vanilla extract to create your own yogurt mixture.
  • Mix any kind of fresh fruit compote into plain full-fat Greek yogurt to make a delicious flavor of yogurt.
  • Sprinkle the Greek yogurt bark with coconut flakes, chia seeds, or hemp seeds before placing it in the freezer.
  • For sweeter bark, drizzle a little honey over the yogurt mixture before freezing.
  • While I normally advocate for using all your favorite fruits, some fruit (like apples, pears, or oranges) don’t freeze as well and therefore aren’t incredible options. Nevertheless, ripe bananas, apricots, and peaches are some easy options.

Now that we’ve covered the healthy ingredients for yogurt bark, let’s make it! The great news is you can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store.

How to Make Berry Frozen Yogurt Bark:

Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.

Spread the yogurt over the entire baking sheet, creating a thin, even layer.

Sprinkle the raspberries, blueberries, and granola over the yogurt. Place the baking sheet on a flat surface in the freezer and freeze for 2 hours, or until frozen solid.

When you’re ready to serve, pull up on the parchment paper and transfer the whole batch to a cutting board.

Use a sharp knife to carefully cut the yogurt bark into sections. This doesn’t need to look perfect, and in fact, the bark probably won’t cut perfectly anyway, so have fun here.

Sheet pan with yogurt, berries, and granola spread over it to make yogurt bark, ready to go into the freezer.

Enjoy immediately and store leftovers in a large zip lock bag or a freezer-safe airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Note that the yogurt bark begins to melt as it comes to room temperature so be sure to only take out the amount you know you’ll use and keep the rest in the freezer to prevent it from melting.

Questions and Reviews

  1. I saw this recipe this morning – and it looked so delicious. I just had to try it. I had the fruit but I didn’t have the yogurt so I ran into town and got some. When I came home, I made it spread it into the pan, topped it with my favorite fruits And some chopped walnuts. I didn’t expect a whole lot of flavor mainly because I lost my sense of taste and smell when I had Covid so all I can do is taste hot cold salt, sweet sour but nothing specific. So this afternoon when I got done with all my errands and work , I sat down and had my dessert before supper. Holy cow!!! This is delicious. Absolutely utterly delicious.
Not being someone on social media never heard of it before – and quite honestly never even thought it was possible. But this is so good. I don’t have to feel deprived anymore when I make my husband putting or he’s ice cream because I need to eat gluten-free. This is a taste treat that I absolutely cannot believe how wonderful it is. I used the lactose free yogurt. And it is spectacular made this way. I will be making this a lot. Thank you, Julia for another wonderful taste combination and tasty treat.
I’ll have regular yogurt once in a while, but I kind of wear out on it – but the texture and the icy cold fruit and the tartness of the fruit really make this really something special.

    1. All of this is amazing to hear, Anne! I’m happy you enjoyed the recipe using walnuts too – Gotta love a nutty crunch! Thrilled you’ve found a treat you can enjoy as a sort of replacement for ice cream or more decadent fare. I found the concept to be just wonderful too and was so glad I gave it a go. It’s great hearing you’re back to normal after COVID – losing taste and smell is definitely no fun, and it’s wonderful hearing the yogurt bark was a little reprieve. It’s definitely a keeper for us now! xo
