Dairy-free, naturally sweetened Matcha Green Tea Latte recipe made with only a few simple ingredients. A lovely way to begin your morning!

Matcha Green Tea Latte | dairy-free and naturally sweetened #vegan

Matcha green tea lattes are one of my favorite cold weather beverages.

Last winter, I took a hiatus from coffee (it’s true. You’re looking at a Coffee Hiatus Survivor), during which my coffee addiction was jettisoned into a full-fledged matcha green tea latte obsession.

You may remember this phase, as we had words about it in one of my blog posts, and many of you expressed interest in seeing a recipe for my morning matcha. Look at how punctual I am with my response to your request! I guess that makes me fashionably latte.

Get it? Late? Latte? < – Lame. Real lame.

The recipe for this cozy beverage is super simple.

How to Make a Matcha Latte:

All you need to do is mix the matcha powder with a small amount of hot water in order to dissolve it, then add your sweetener and milk of choice.

I like taking the dairy-free and naturally sweetened route by using unsweetened almond milk and pure maple syrup or honey. Because I’m all about steamy, frothy warm beverages, I use my milk frother when I make lattes.

You can also heat the almond milk on the stove top or zap it in the microwave โ€“ just be sure it doesnโ€™t come to a boil.

What is Matcha?

In case you’re unfamiliar with matcha, it is finely-ground green tea leaves. Because you’re consuming the actual leaf when you consume matcha, it is an even better source of antioxidants than brewed green tea.

Instead of giving you a caffeine spike the way coffee does, matcha green tea gives you up to 6 hours of sustained energy.

In addition, studies show it helps boost your metabolism and protects your skin from UV rays.

PLUS, the powder is versatile!

It can be used in cooking, baking, smoothies, and lattes. Aside from lattes, two of my favorite matcha applications are my Grain-Free Matcha Muffins, Mango Matcha Smoothie and this Green Tea Coconut Milk Ice Cream.

One bag of matcha goes a long way, giving you ample opportunity to work on your green tea latte foam art and experiment with other matcha treats.

Questions and Reviews

  1. Wasnโ€™t a big fan of matcha tea until I tried Matcha Latte. Now, Iโ€™m hooked. Would want to try this dairy-free version.

  2. I am not a tea drinker but I love matcha tea. For years my doctor has been trying to get me to drink green tea but quite frankly speaking this coffee drinker just doesn’t like the taste of green tea.

I saw a matcha latte on Dr. Oz and it looked so good I had to try it. I still have my morning coffee but I look forward to my midmorning matcha latte! I add a dusting of Vietnamese cinnamon on top and it is heavenly!
