A green smoothie including nutrient dense superfoods like kale, almond milk, avocado, and blueberries. Also yogurt and bananas!
Note: My cookbook, Delicious Probiotic Drinks, is now available for pre-order!
A smoothie a day has been my modus operandi as of late.
Due in large part to smoothies playing a role in the probiotics cookbook, Delicious Probiotic Drinks, I’m writing, there have been all sorts of variations of fruit and green smoothies for me to whip up and taste test.
So far, many have been very palatable, while others…not so much. In light of Saint Paddy’s Day coming soon, I wanted to share one of my favorite green superfood smoothies.
This superfood smoothie is pretty much a well-balanced meal in a glass. It includes spinach (or kale), avocado, blueberries and almond milk which are all nutrient dense superfoods. Plus yogurt (probiotics) and bananas (yum!).
The balance of omega fatty acids, protein, vitamins and fructose make for a healthful meal in a cup. And it’s green!
If you’re looking for a tasty and easy way of getting a high concentration of nutrients, particularly in the morning or after a workout, this smoothie is perfect. If you’re looking for something green to drink on St. Patrick’s Day (other than green beer of course), this green smoothie also makes the cut.
So, friends, you can be my little taste testers and tell me: does this smoothie make the cut for my cookbook? If you try it, give me your expert or amateur green smoothie opinion!

I love my health supplements from http://www.superfoodberrydrinks.com/. When I run out of them, I try making my own shakes and drinks for a while. I am glad I came across this article of yours! This smoothie is the yummiest Iโve found so far.
Wow… must try! Thanks for this. ๐
Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of
any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my
newest twitter updates. I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite
some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this.
Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog
and I look forward to your new updates.
I have nut allergies and cannot use almond milk. Any suggestions for a substitute?
Could you use soy milk or coconut milk? Coconut milk would be my preference ๐ Let me know if you try it!
I used greek yogurt and frozen blueberries and it turned out great (and packed with protein for post workout).
Paula
So glad you enjoyed it, Paula!
I am drinking one right now, no modifications to the recipe. It is TO DIE FOR. The color is amazing! I’ll definitely be trying more of your stuff!
Hi Julia! I’ve enjoyed your smoothie recipe for the last 2 days on a row! I’m going to make it a normal part of my routine for sure. I’m in the process of removing insoluble fibers from my diet – which means no more whole grain toast with almond butter for breakfast. I thought smoothies would be the way to go!
I used greek yogurt and 1/4 cup of blueberries. Yesterday, my hubs threw in 1 whole cup of blueberries, and I’m like, wait a minute… isnt this supposed to be green?! lol. It was so yummy either way, but today it looked like your photo at least. ๐
I ran the ingredients through my calorie app and it comes out at 401 calories (with 1 oz of spinach) for anyone that’s interested.
Thanks for the delicious recipe!!
I’m so glad you like it, Rachel!! It definitely kept me full for hours after I had one. I’m pretty new to green smoothies so I’m always looking for tasty recipes. Feel free to share any others you’ve tried with me! Thanks a bunch for the nutrition facts…I should probably be taking the time to do this! ๐
You’re writing a probiotic cookbook???!!!! So awesome… I NEED that book now. I can’t wait until it’s published – I’ll be your first customer! ๐
I’ll give this a try early next week, but from the looks of the recipe, I know I’m going to like it. I have to buy a blender this weekend. I stopped doing smoothies because my hubs old smoothie maker sucks to use for small amounts. Anyway, I need to start incorporating more yogurt into my diet, and there’s no better/easier way to do that than a smoothie, right?! Plus, you can sneak all kinds of other nutrients in there while you’re at it! ๐
