Grapefruit and rosemary may seem like a strange duo, but the two go together like matching bookends. Like Kenan & Kel. Bevis and Butthead. Rhianna and Eminem (just go with it).ย While I was writing Delicious Probiotic Drinks, I learned that the ULTIMATE way of getting a consistently bubbly and perfectly tasty probiotic drink was through adding fresh fruit (including the pulp) combined with herbs after the first fermentation was complete.
After brewing countless gallons of beverages, my number one brewerโs trick is this: add fresh fruit (perhaps some herbage?) and additional sugar prior to bottling your drink for secondary fermentation. Badabingbadaboom fizzalizz chingchangwallawallabingbang. For reals. Signed, sealed, delivered, this is your key to probiotic bliss. If youโre new to brewing, lock those words away in your memory bank until youโre ready to use them for your home-brewed elixirs. Also remember these words: Blackberry-Sage, Blueberry-Basil, Lemon-Lavender, and Grapefruit-Rosemary. Insaaaaaaaaaaaanity! Do them.

Gut health is a real thing. We are the result of what we put into our bodies. And the effect of the things we consume goes beyond physique or body chemistry. Our inputs determine so much of our outputs (TMI? Whateves.), including our overall well-being, emotional, and mental health. Having been blessed with a healthy gut, I feel like I’m speaking out of turn when I talk about gut health, so I figured I would share some resources I have found over the last few months.

I squaled with glee at your Kenan & Kel reference, ZOMG! Im a huge fan of juices and herbs in drink.. Looks delicious!
Love this, Julia, and congratulations on your book! I am using this same combination of flavors today in my marinated feta!
i am starting to enjoy kombucha. will be looking for your book.
So glad to hear it, Dixya! It’s definitely an acquired taste, but it’s so tasty once you get used to it, and a blast to make!
Julia, I think you have changed me, seriously. Your book has (already) taught me so much…and now I need to buy extra grapefruit this week ๐
Wahooooo!!! I’m so happy to hear you’re amped up and inspired to make kombucha! You will seriously love it! ๐
You don’t have to tell me twice to roll with the grapefruit and herbage! I’m in like a slap bracelet in the 90s. (Sorry, brain is tired..that was the best analogy I could come up with!)
Must. Have. This. Drank.
I’m making a recipe from your book tomorrow — squee! Can’t wait. ๐
Yum, blueberry and basil is one of my favorite combos but I havent trued grapefruit and rosemary – I’ll have to give it a go ๐
So sophisticated! I need to get my act together and try some of the new-to-me drinks in your book. Love it lady!!
I feel like I have learned SO MUCH from your book and yet I’ve only really skimmed the surface so far! So excited every time i have a spare minute to dive back in.
I have never tried Kombucha.. (Crazy I know) I love the flavors in this drink. Congrats on your book. I’ve seen some amazing recipes posted as part of the reviews and just ordered a copy. can’t wait!!
This looks so lovely!
This will be my next thing, very interested. Thanks
I can’t thank you enough for including me in promoting your book! You did such a great job explaining everything. I’m so excited to get brewing as soon as we get back from our honeymoon and I’ll keep that finishing touch in mind for some extra fizzalizz. Ugh, Blueberry-basil and a chair in the sun is calling my name right now!!
Yup – I would by this kombucha if you tried to sell it to me! I couldn’t think of another word to describe it other than ” Badabingbadaboom fizzalizz chingchangwallawallabingbang” ๐
Kombucha seems a little intimidating to me but after conquering yogurt (thanks to you!) I think it will be my next venture. The combo of grapefruit and rosemary sounds amazing! Posting your cookbook review this week ๐
Love this flavor combination. I’ve been enjoying kefir lately. It’s delicious. Heading over to take a look.
