Quick and Easy Steak Fajitas made with only 5 basic ingredients! This simple recipe is loaded with flavor and couldnโt be any easier to make! Perfect for tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, and more, steak fajitas always make for an enticing meal!
I mentioned a few weeks ago in my Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas post that carniceria-style meats are one of my absolute favorites!
Thereโs just something about a pile of well-seasoned, perfectly cooked meat with fresh vegetables and all sorts of accoutrements (think: guacamole, salsa, tortillas, chopped lettuce, cheese, and more) that is something to look forward to and relish!
This crazy simple and easy steak fajitas recipe only requires FIVE ingredients and turns out tasting completely authentic.
Bonus: when you go to cook the fajitas, it takes less than 20 minutes to prepare!
Marinating the meat and vegetables in oil and seasoning ahead of time front-loads the work and ensures youโre left with tender and flavorful meat with hardly any effort.
So letโs get straight to it, starting with the ingredients!
Steak Fajita Ingredients:
Steak: Because the steak gets marinated in oil and seasonings, you donโt need a fancy cut! I use sirloin steak, which is lean and inexpensive.
Avocado Oil: Used for marinating and cooking the fajitas, avocado oil has a neutral flavor, which allows the fajita flavors to shine through, and has a high smoke point – perfect for cooking at high temperatures.
Bell Peppers & Onion: Traditional fajitas always include bell peppers and onion. I like using two different colors of bell pepper to keep it nice and colorful, but you can select your favorite color(s).
Chili Powder: The all-star ingredient that seasons the dish to perfection, chili powder is loaded with flavor and ensures you donโt have to add a huge amount of additional ingredients to get amazing flavor. If you like making your own chili powder blend, feel free to do so! Or use a combination of paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and ground cumin.
For Serving:
Limes, avocado, tortillas, rice, beans, cheese, salsa, sour cream…you name it! You can serve it up however youโd like.
I make burrito bowls with steak fajitas or tacos (as shown in the photos).
Keep it low-carb by using low-carb almond flour tortillas or cauliflower rice. Iโm a big fan of my Jalapeno Ginger Caulilower Rice or my Spanish Cauliflower Rice. If you do grains, my Homemade Spanish Rice is a perfect pair!
How to Make Easy Steak Fajitas:
Cut the sirloin steak into thin strips and place it in a large mixing bowl, along with the rest of the ingredients. Use your hands to toss everything together until everything is well-coated in oil and seasoning.
Transfer this mixture to a large zip lock bag or tupperware container. Seal and refrigerate overnight (at least 1 hour, up to 48 hours).
When youโre ready to cook the fajitas, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and simply transfer the fajitas mixture to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef and vegetables have reached desired done-ness, about 10 to 15 minutes total.
Serve fajitas as-is for a low-carb option, or with cauliflower rice, steamed rice, tortillas, guacamole, cheese, etc. You can use the fajitas to make fajita tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, taco salads, and more!
Recipe Adaptations:
- Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot sauce, 1 tsp chipotle powder, and/or 1 to 2 jalapenos for spicier fajitas
- Love your veggies? Add in extra vegetables if youโd like – bok choy, broccoli, or cauliflower would be great!
- Use any cut of steak youโd like. Just note that leaner cuts should be marinated for at least a few hours.
