Açaí bowls. Have you dabbled??
This açaí bowl fools you into thinking you’re doing something uber naughty for your body, when, in fact, you’re doing something nice.
Real nice. Because: vitamins, fiber, antioxidants.
And don’t forget the YUM part!
What is an Açaí Bowl?
In case you’re unfamiliar with açaí bowls, they’re basically a super thick smoothie made with the superfruit, açaí berry. Açaí berries come from Brazil and are full of antioxidants, omega fatty acids, B vitamins, vitamin K and fiber.
Açaí bowls are thick smoothie bowls made with frozen açaí berries, any other fruit you desire (banana is a popular addition), and some form of liquid – typically a non-dairy milk like coconut milk or almond milk and/or juice, such as apple juice or orange juice.
Some people add adaptogens like ashwagandha, cordecepts, astralagus, maca, and/or turmeric to boost the health benefits even further.
A typical açaí bowl is served with a variety of toppings, like granola, nuts, fresh fruit, etc. You get to choose your own adventure here! Try out my Paleo Granola for an amazing topping!
In summary: we like them because they’re super nutritious and also super delish for your head trap.
Where Do I Get Açaí Berries?
Thankfully, the food industry makes sourcing açaí berries very easy. A few companies make pureed acai pouches, which you can simply open and add to your blender along with any other ingredients you fancy. You can find these at most natural food stores, including Whole Foods. You can also buy them online!
I love the rich chocolate-berry-banana-cinnamon flavor in this bowl. It’s so creamy and tastes decadent but is just so healthful and packed with nutrients. This recipe makes two açaí bowls, but you can easily double the recipe to serve more people. Or halve it in order to just feed your yourself.

Insomnia really sucks!! Few weeks ago I couldn’t sleep because I had severe lower back pain in the middle of the night. I slept about 3 hours a day. Next day I was so tired!!!! But now I am feeling much better.
Ju, this açaí bowl looks as good as the ones I had in Brazil. This is such a hit in Brazil and I used to have it every weekend on the beach. Your recipe brought me good memories. Thanks for sharing it 😉
Iceland? Girl, you are as badass as they get. I’m totally jealous. I’m sorry to hear about your insomnia, but it sounds like you’re gettin’ shit done. This bowl is totally happening for breakfast tomorrow. Because: chocolate in the morning, duh!
haha oh gosh – insomnia = totally not fun. I had one of those nights recently getting myself worked up about a stupid doctor apt that was nothing (can you say hypochondriac??).
But these bowls! And chocolate for breakfast is always always a very good thing!
We love smoothie bowls but we’ve never tried a chocolate based one…but it looks delicious! Love the chocolate and banana combo…we are definitely going to have to try this!
All of your bowls are so beautiful. This one sounds like an amazing treat too!
sometimes i am more productive at night! I tried an acai bowl for the first time this summer and fell in love! This chocolate banana version sounds even better bc well…..CHOCOLATE!
Okay first, insomnia sucks balls. I try to avoid caffeine pretty much all day long because I’m naturally high anxiety. Me all jacked up is not a pretty thing. However, I’ve found that taking the time to write down (literally hour for hour) my schedule and to-do list for the next day really helps. Then I just tell myself, Scarlett O’Hara style, tomorrow is another day and I’ll worry about it then. Or whatever the f she says.
Second, I just got done stalking the Iceland workshop and I WANT TO GO WITH YOU SO BAD. Hot springs?! Waterfall picnics?!! I just stopped breathing.
And third, the only thing that could possibly get me out of bed after only 3 hours of sleep is this amazing bowl of chocolately goodness. I want to lay my entire face inside of it and inhale as big as I can. Mmm…
I love this recipe! And PS- I quit calling it insomnia after 6 months of regular 3 a.m. turn-ins too. I just sleep later and actually get more work done this way. It’s a new found love in my book! (I drink coffee late in the day too … kind of mellows me out;) Love me some acai and cacao too … lovely bowl here!
Though I do not have self-induced insomnia and rarely stay up that late, on the nights when I do I go into it thinking “ok Erin, stay awake and be super productive. Just like bust out 3 posts and schedule all your social for the week.” But it always ends up being more of a combination of Pinterest-ing and binge watching whatever show happens to be on the background (i.e. House Hunters, always). … I have a problem.
On another note, I have heard Iceland is the place to go these days. You’re going to have so much fun!
I had awful insomnia for a year or so and I WISH it were exciting as your 2 am adventures! This bowl looks delish 🙂
Bouts of insomnia are the worst! I am having a sleep study done next week because i think I might have sleep apnea and I’m terrified that I won’t be able to sleep when I’m in a weird room hooked up to a bunch of machines. UGH #sleepproblems!
The nice thing about this acai bowl is that it can help make up for a poor night’s sleep! (well…sort of) Looks amazing dear!
I’ve had insomnia…sometimes because recipes are floating through my head for the next day. Seriously! Food induced insomnia is a thing. 🙂 I’d have it thinking about these acai bowls too — this chocolate banana combination in a smoothie bowl sounds amazing!
I’m right there with ya Marcie! Sometimes the inspiration won’t quit!
Oh goodness, your 2am self sounds fun, my 2am self is crabby that I’m not sleeping! 🙂
Thankfully, no insomnia hear! Haha!
But this bowl looks incredible!
