Air Fryer Shrimp Ingredients:
The ingredients needed for this easy air fryer shrimp recipe are so simple!
Fresh or frozen raw shrimp, avocado oil (or cooking oil of choice), fresh garlic, paprika, sea salt, fresh lemon juice.
Boom! A delicious appetizer or main dish.
What Type of Shrimp Should I Use?:
Either fresh or frozen shrimp will work. I use fresh wild-caught pink shrimp that come already deveined.
If you use frozen shrimp, be sure to thaw it completely first. The best way to do this is to allow it to thaw in the refrigerator overnight; however, the fastest way to thaw shrimp is to transfer what youโre using to a zip lock bag and submerge it in cold water (the way you would chicken breasts, ground beef, etc.).
I find fresh shrimp to not only be quicker to prepare but also the taste and texture is superior in my opinion.
Peeling the shrimp prior to marinating and air frying it will yield the most flavorful result as the shrimp will be able to adequately soak up the marinade; however, you can leave the peel on if you’d like.
How Long to Cook Shrimp in Air Fryer?
3 to 4 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, as long as the shrimp is either fresh or fully thawed from frozen.
What about frozen shrimp in air fryer?
If you want to cook shrimp straight from frozen without thawing it first, no sweat! Frozen shrimp that is raw (uncooked) requires 9 to 12 minutes in the air fryer at 400 degrees, and shrimp that was fully cooked before freezing needs 5 to 9 minutes.
How to Cook Shrimp in Air Fryer:
Place the raw shrimp in a zip lock bag, along with the avocado oil, garlic, sea salt, and paprika). Note: be sure the shrimp is peeled and deveined before marinating it.
Seal the bag and shake it around until everything is well-combined and the shrimp is coated in the marinade.
Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, up to 8 hours.
When youโre ready to air fry, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
Place the shrimp into the air fryer in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in two batches. I use a Ninja AF161 Max XL and need to cook it in two batches.
Air fry for 4 minutes. Check on shrimp and air fry for another 1 minute longer if necessary. Do note shrimp doesnโt take very long to cook, so avoid overcooking it. You will know the shrimp is fully cooked when it is completely pink and reaches 165 degrees F (you can check the internal temperature using a meat thermometer if you’d like).
Drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice over the cooked shrimp and serve!
Serve shrimp with your choice of side dishes and enjoy!
For a low-carb keto dinner, serve the shrimp with cauliflower rice, asparagus, or broccoli.
