So combining the concepts, these delicious beef and rice bowls were born.
Why Youโll Love This Recipe:
Culinary Adventure: The sweet and savory flavors of the sticky stir fry sauce are out of this world delicious! When combined with steamed white rice, brown rice, or wild rice and your choice of stir fry or steamed veggies, youโre left with a restaurant quality meal!
Easy to Customize: Add in your favorite cooked vegetables or sauces to fit these beef stir fry bowls to your palate and dietary needs.
Versatile: This simple recipe is pitch perfect if youโre looking for creative steak recipes. I love that you can use virtually any cut of beef you have on hand.
So if youโre looking for beef sirloin tip steak recipes, chuck steak recipes, how to cook thin ribeye steaks, a flat iron steak recipe or more, youโre in the right spot.
Just be sure to marinate any kind of steak that is notorious for being tough, such as flank steak, skirt steak, or round steak.
Letโs discuss the simple ingredients for this delicious garlic beef recipe.
Ingredients for Sesame Garlic Steak Bites Bowls:
Steak: Many types of steak will work fabulously in this recipe. I like using NY strip steak, boneless ribeye steak, or sirloin steak. So what is the best cut of beef for steak bites?
I like using a cut of steak that has a decent amount of intramuscular fat marbling and/or fat around the edges in order to guarantee juicy steak bites.
Lean cuts of beef like filet mignon also work well, although I would avoid using a lean cut that is known for being tough.
Beef stew meat works well in applications like this because it comes pre-chopped into the perfect size pieces and generally contains some fat.
Sauce: Coconut aminos, rice vinegar, sriracha, fresh garlic cloves, toasted sesame oil, and black pepper are the basic sauce ingredients. Coconut aminos is a great soy-free alternative to soy sauce and it brings natural sweetness to the sauce.
Rice: Pick your favorite kind of rice for the bowls. I enjoy the texture of basmati rice or jasmine rice, which is what I went with.
Use cauliflower rice (or veggie rice of choice) for a low-carb option.
Broccoli: Bringing some fiber and vitamins to the meal, broccoli brings some greenery to this healthy dinner recipe.
You can cook it using your favorite method. Steaming, roasting, or stir frying are all viable options.
Pickled Red Onions: Adding tangy flavor to balance out the flavor profile, I whip up some quick pickled onions prior to preparing the steak.
Avocado: Sliced avocado adds a creamy component to the bowls. The glazed steak bites already contain a decent amount of fat, so skip the avocado if youโre watching your fat intake.
Green Onions and Sesame Seeds: Sesame seeds add a little nutty flavor and green onion bring a fresh zing to the bowls.
โAvocado Oil: Used to sear the beef, we need a quality high temperature cooking oil that won’t burn.
I prefer using avocado oil because it contains healthy fats over vegetable oil, which contains more omega 6’s. Olive oil isn’t a great option here because it burns at high temperatures.
Recipe Customizations:
- Top the bowls with any of your other favorite toppings or sauces like hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, or a drizzle of soy sauce.
- Add in your favorite veggies. Red bell peppers, green bell peppers, broccoli, green beans, asparagus, spinach, and bok choy are all great options.
- Prepare the pickled onions and rice ahead of time and use day-old rice to break up some of the work.
- Use Teriyaki sauce instead of coconut aminos if you donโt typically use coconut aminos in other recipes.
- You can omit the sriracha for mild sauce, or increase the amount for spicy sauce.
- For a sweeter sauce, add a little brown sugar.
- If you have fresh ginger or ginger paste on hand, feel free to add some in.
- To level up the experience, make your favorite rice recipe like fried rice instead of using plain white rice or brown rice. My Cilantro Lime Rice and Ginger Turmeric Aromatic Rice are both good options.
- If you’re following a low calorie diet, use cauliflower rice instead of regular rice, and skip the avocado.
Now that weโve covered the basic ingredients, letโs make this garlic beef recipe.
How to Make Sesame Garlic Steak Bite Bowls:
Prepare the Sides:
Begin by preparing the side dishes you intend to serve in the bowls. Once the steak gets cooking, it cooks fast so have everything ready before preparing the steak bites.
Begin by preparing the Pickled Red Onions because they take the longest to make. You can make the pickled red onions up to one week in advance.
As an alternative to the pickled red onions, you can make my Asian Cucumber Salad.
Cook the rice according to the package instructions, steam or roast the broccoli, and if desired, make the pickled red onions.
Make Steak Bites on the Stove Top:
Heat one tablespoon of avocado oil in a large skillet over high heat (I use a 12-inch large nonstick skillet but a cast iron skillet works too). Allow the oil to heat up for a few minutes. We want it to be sizzling hot.
Carefully transfer the chopped steak bites to the hot skillet and spread them into a single layer.
Cook steak undisturbed for 2-3 minutes, or until it has a golden brown crust. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. It will immediately begin to boil – this is normal.
Continue cooking at a full boil over high heat until the sauce has thickened and glazed the steak, about 4 to 5 minutes or until steak reaches your desired level of crisp and the sauce is your desired level of thickness.
Make Crispy Steak Bowls:
Load up your steak rice bowl by adding your desired amount of rice, broccoli, avocado, pickled red onion, and steak bites.
Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions and enjoy!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
This great meal contains so much flavor and is one of those healthy recipes that keeps you coming back for more.
This recipe makes enough to serve 2-3 individuals. It serves two in my household because weโre very hungry humans; however, for many this recipe will serve three.

The recipe is missing instructions for how to make the sauce. All it says is to add the sauce mixture to the beef. Do you blend everything together??
Hi Stephanie! My apologies for the confusion! You are correct – the sauce ingredients get mixed together in a bowl or measuring cup (or blended in a small blender like a Magic Bullet), then added after searing the steak bites. Hope you enjoy! xo
I made this last night for our Valentines dinner. My husband loved it and so did I!
Aww yaaay! I love hearing that! Thanks so much for sharing, Angela! xo
